Newcomb Plate 1831 N-5 Cent
1831 1C Medium Letters AU58 NGC. XF40 EAC. N-5, Usual Die State, R.4. According to Del Bland's Census, there are no Mint State examples of N-4 or N-5 known to exist. This example is tied for fourth finest known behind a single AU50 and two XF45 coins, per EAC grading. It is a lovely coin with light tan color and slightly darker olive-brown toning on the highpoints. The surfaces are virtually flawless, and a small toning spot below the ribbon end on the reverse exactly matches the Newcomb plate. Both the obverse and the reverse are plated in Newcomb.Ex: Howard Newcomb (J.C. Morgenthau, 5/45), lot 625; Floyd Starr (Stack's, 6/84), lot 249.(#1681)(Registry values: P1)
