Description
Certified Gem 1831 N-3 Cent
1831 1C Medium Letters MS66 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC. N-3, Early Die State, R.1. Although not perfectly centered, both sides have crisp and clear border details, wider at the right and narrower at the left. The stars are mostly flat but well outlined and not drawn to the border. This delightful cent has virtually flawless olive-brown surfaces with blue and iridescent color. Just a trace of faded mint red is visible on each side. Only the lack of mint color prevents a much higher EAC grade. The commercial grading services consider surfaces, luster, and color independently while EAC grading standards consider all of these factors in unison.Ex: Philip Van Cleave (Kagin's, 2/1/86), lot 5488.(#1681)(Registry values: P1)
