Description
Desirable 1833 N-1 in MS 61, Tied for Third Finest Known
1833 N-1, R.2. Sharpness of MS 61 Brown, net MS 60. An important coin that has a long and cherished pedigree and is further enhanced by being the plate coin in both The Cent Book by John D. Wright (both obverse and reverse), and United States Large Cents 1816 - 1839 by William C. Noyes, (again both obverse and reverse). Choice medium-brown in color with ample luster in the fields. One tick mark on Liberty's jaw serves to identify its provenance, and by small planchet laminations on the lower reverse. There are some microscopic dark specks on the obverse. Del N. Bland has provided Condition Census information throughout the Mac MacDonald Collection where applicable, and he notes that this coin is tied for third finest known with a couple of others for the variety.Ex: Henry Grunthal, 4/45; Willard C.
