Description
Mint State 1833/2 N-4 Overdate Cent
1833/2 1C MS63 Brown NGC. MS60 EAC N-4, Early Die State, Low R.4. This is the John Wright plate coin for the variety. Tied for sixth finest known according to Del Bland's research. This is an earlier die state that clearly shows a previous 2 below the final 3. It is the 1833/2 overdate that has been lost to recent students. The curve of the former 2 is visible just below the upper ball of the final 3, and the diagonal and base are visible within the lower curve of this digit. Not only is this the rarest variety of the year, but this early die state will garner additional pressure from date and major variety collectors. Fully lustrous with frosty medium brown surfaces and hints of darker steel toning.Ex: Blaise J. Dantone (Lester Merkin, 3/69), lot 682; C. Douglas Smith; Jerry A. Bobbe; Myles Z.
