Description
"Brown and Red" 1838 N-5 Cent
1838 1C MS65 Brown NGC. MS60/63 EAC. N-5, Usual Die State, Low R.3. All examples of this variety are approximately the same die state with swelling at NT of CENT and the line below, and with a faint die crack from the left side of the E in STATES to a leaf below the adjacent T. Viewing the obverse and reverse of this example is almost like looking at two different coins. The obverse has deep steel and olive-brown color with tinges of mint red around the devices. The surfaces are choice without any marks or abrasions of significance. The reverse also has choice surfaces, and has nearly full original orange mint luster that is just beginning to fade to mellow brown.Ex: Doug Bird (12/88).(#1741) (Registry values: N1793)
