Description1838 1C N-4, R.1 MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Our EAC grade MS64. Bob Grellman rates this piece as MS65. An extraordinary 1838 cent, this Gem is virtually full red and highly unusual as such. Splashes of delicate light brown toning are mostly evident on the obverse. Slight weakness of the strike is evident at the upper left obverse, but the overall eye appeal is extraordinary. A trivial carbon spot is noted in the wreath below the second T in STATES. Population for all 1838 varieties: 38 in 65 Red and Brown (1 in 65+), 10 finer. This is the finer of two 1838 N-4 cents that carry the Red and Brown designation (7/21).
