Description

1839 N-4 Cent, MS65 Red and Brown
Silly Head

1839 1C Silly Head MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. N-4, R.1. Our EAC Grade MS63. Both sides of this middle die state example have faded but complete border dentilation. One of only two Silly Head die marriages, which makes it scarcer than the Booby Head. Both designs were abandoned in 1840 in favor of the Petite Head, which was also struck in 1839. This is an outstanding Gem with smooth surfaces and good eye appeal. Frosty light steel-brown surfaces retain considerable mint red on both sides.
