1846 N-1 Small Date Cent, MS64 Red and Brown
    Tied for Third Finest Known

1846 1C Small Date MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. N-1, R.1. MRB MS63. Ex: Brown-Boka. Grellman state c with extensive obverse and reverse cracks, although the terminal cracks of state d have not formed. The 1846 N-1 is normally seen in the middle die states.
About 25% brilliant mint red remains, the balance toned to deep olive-brown. Aside from a planchet disturbance left of the date, pedigree tracking is accomplished via the distinctive toning pattern. Tied for third finest in the Grellman census, this piece was previously certified MS64 Red and Brown PCGS and again carries that grade.
Norman W. Pullen has been in the rare coin business since 1959, first in New Jersey and later in Maine, where he relocated in 1977. He operates Maine Gold and Silver in Portland, although he considers himself as "semiretired." He is also actively involved in the model train business. Other interests, past and present, include New Jersey Colonial coinage, Maine obsolete bank notes, and "Remember the Maine" memorabilia. Heritage offered more than 400 lots of obsolete currency from Pullen's collection in 2003.
Ex: Norman Pullen (1989 F.P.L.); J.R. Grellman; Robinson S. Brown (Superior, 6/2002), lot 246; Jon Alan Boka.
