1847 N-19 Cent, MS64 Red
Possibly Finest Known

1847 1C MS64 Red NGC. N-19, R.1. Grellman Die State b. The date is repunched, visible inside the 8 and along the upper edge of the crossbar in the 4. The usual late die state without die lines on the central reverse. This lovely near-Gem exhibits orange mint luster with splashes of faded brown patina on each side. It ranks high in the condition census, and may be among the finest known. It is clearly finer than either the Ted Naftzger MS60 called fifth finest known, and it is finer than the Dan Holmes MS62+ example, said to be "CC#4 behind a trio of very slightly finer examples in the Grellman Census." Our EAC grade MS63.(Registry values: P1)
