Description

1848 N-7 Cent, MS65 Red
Fiery Mint Red

1848 1C N-7, R.2, MS65 Red PCGS. Grellman Die State b. All examples of this variety that retain any amount of red mint color are from this later die state that has a lump on the curl over the second 8 in the date, according to Bob Grellman's notes in the 2021 update of his reference. This blazing 1848 N-7 cent has full mint red on both sides with trivial grade-consistent spots of no consequence. This piece is probably finest known of the 1848 N-7 cents. It appears finer than the MS65 Red and Brown PCGS Naftzger coin that Grellman cited as the finest known, a coin that Ted Naftzger graded MS70. Population: 4 in 65 Red, 0 finer (1/22) for all 1848 varieties. Our EAC grade MS66.
