MS66 ★ Red and Brown
1850 1C MS66 ★ Red and Brown NGC. N-13, R.4. Our EAC Grade
MS63. Grellman Die State a, "rare." The elusive initial die
state with myriad fine die lines over ERIC and no reverse die
cracks. A good strike despite a few soft star centers. Orange-red
is plentiful, particularly on the obverse, though the fields inside
the wreath and above Liberty's hair are partly brown. A loupe fails
to locate remotely mentionable contact. One small spot is near 6
o'clock on the reverse. As of (12/13), NGC has certified just five
1850 cents with a Star designation, 3 as MS66 Brown and 2 as MS66
