Description

1851 1C MS66 Brown NGC. N-19, R.3. The diagnostic obverse die break (as struck) from the rim to Liberty's nose branches into two cracks--the first continues over the top of Liberty's portrait and ends in the denticles after passing through star 9, and the second curves down into the field below Liberty's chin. There are few mentionable post-production features on either side of this glossy-brown example, although a well concealed toning spot on the reverse over the lower left wreath is noted for accuracy. The otherwise sharp strike wanes slightly around the obverse denticles and the reverse periphery. The Condition Census for this die variety, as computed by Robinson, includes eight Uncirculated coins that grade MS62-MS66.
