Description

1851 N-2 Cent, MS65 Red
Late Die State

1851 1C N-2, R.1, MS65 Red PCGS. Grellman Die State b, the usual late die state with obverse attribution features no longer visible. The top of the 8 is thin or weakly defined although most design details suggest a sharp strike. This frosty Gem has full orange mint luster with the usual trivial carbon flecks that are seen on nearly all early cents that survive today. A small mark on Liberty's profile between the ear and eye appears as struck. Another mark between the 5 and 1 in the date will aid identification. Our EAC grade MS65. PCGS Normal Date Population: 17 in 65 Red, 2 finer. PCGS N-2 Population: 1 in 65 Red, 0 finer (11/21).
