Description
1851 1C MS65 Red and Brown NGC. N-38, R.1. Original red luster dominates the reverse of this nicely preserved example, traces of similar color are evident in the more protected areas in and around the obverse devices. Those areas that are toned exhibit glossy-brown patina. A carbon spot on the obverse over the truncation of the neck and a fainter toning spot on the reverse above the T in CENT are the only singularly mentionable distractions. Although this is a common die marriage in an absolute sense, Robinson does not list a single coin above the MS64 grade level in his Condition Census.
From the Peter Martinez Collection.
