Description
1853 Braided Hair Large Cent, MS65 Red
N-25, The Ultimate Red Type Coin
1853 1C N-25, R.1, MS65 Red PCGS. CAC. This coin almost
single-handedly gives new meaning to the "Red" designation, for it
is nearly as bright and fresh looking as any of the new Lincoln
cents one might pick up in pocket change today. The base of the 1
in the date is recut, and a mint-made spur from a denticle near the
first star confirms this more available variety. Liberty's portrait
is crisply struck, as is the reverse wreath, though most of the
stars lack central details. The rims show nearly complete
dentilation, though those at the upper-left obverse border are a
trifle weak. A simply astounding Braided Hair large cent. Our EAC
grade MS60. Population: 1 in 65 Red, 0 finer (9/16).Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2004), lot 5135.
