Description

Gem Mint State 1855 N-9 Knob on Ear Cent

1855 1C Knob on Ear MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. N-9, R.1. Grellman state d. An earlier die state of this popular variety, with the knob still in its developing stages. Cracks have outlined the knob between Liberty's ear and the letter T, and this break is beginning to rise above the surface of the hair strands, but has not yet expanded over to the Y of LIBERTY. Grellman state d. Deep orange mint color is visible on both sides, a shade or two lighter on the reverse. At least 50% of the original color remains, although this is so nicely and attractively blended with light brown toning that it is difficult to pinpoint an exact percentage of red color. Exceptional surfaces with full cartwheel luster. EAC 63. Population: 1 in 65, 0 finer (8/07).
Ex: Del Bland (7/19/1969); Jules Reiver (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 20620.(Registry values: P1)
