Sharp 1855 Upright 5s Cent, N-4, MS65 Red
1855 1C Upright 5s MS65 Red NGC. N-4, R.1. Grellman Die State a. N-4, R.1. A pair of die lumps on Liberty's jaw, left of the ear, are diagnostic, as is a line down to left inside bottom of N in CENT and another inside top of that N. Uncracked reverse. The strike is exacting on the portrait, although some stars have central softness. Generally orange-gold, with slight mellowing on the neck, the jaw, and the reverse margin at 7 o'clock. Essentially unabraded, and revealing just a few light carbon flecks. Certified in a former generation holder. MRB MS63. Census: 2 in 65 Red for the issue, 0 finer (7/09).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 226M, PCGS# 1909, GSID# 1182)
