1819 N-8 Large Cent, MS64 Red and Brown
Randall Hoard Variety

1819 1C Small Date, N-8, R.1, MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. This impressive cent represents a Randall Hoard variety. That hoard, discovered about the time of the Civil War, is the source of many high grade 1816 through 1820 large cents. Typical of those coins, this example retains considerable red mint color with minor toning spots, such as those at the border below star 2 and in the field adjacent to Liberty's eye. The Noyes-Lusk early copper database records 23 examples of 1819 N-8, although the present piece is unmatched to any that Bill Noyes has photographed. This example would likely rank among the six finest examples known to Noyes and Lusk. PCGS 1819 Small Date Population: 28 in 64 Red and Brown, 3 finer. CAC Census: 14 in 64 Red and Brown, 3 finer (4/26).
