Description
1803 AU 50 Obverse Field Cuts, S-245, R.3, the "Unicorn" obverse, so-called because a clash mark protrudes from the forehead of Liberty, this is a later die state with the heavy break over RICA on the reverse rim, well detailed, but both sides bear many short scratches that were inflicted long ago and have now retoned to the same light brown as the undisturbed surfaces; 1805 XF 40 Obverse Field Tooled, Pointed 1, S-269, R.1, well balanced steel-brown surfaces, lighter only in the smoothed-out area to the right of the portrait; and an 1823/2 Fine 15 Porous, N-1, the devices on both sides are offset in a light gray color, a scarce issue that was omitted from mint reports.
