Description

Desirable 1850 Double Eagle, AU53

1850 $20 AU53 PCGS. Splendid olive-gold patina covers the lightly abraded surfaces of this lustrous coin. The details are boldly defined and there are no mentionable marks on either side. Despite a high mintage, the 1850 had a lower survival rate than many of the later issues. These pieces are now extremely popular as a type coins because of their status as the first regular issue double eagles. (Registry values: N1793)
