Attractive 1850 Double Eagle, AU55

1850 $20 AU55 NGC. Inspection of NGC/PCGS population data indicates that the 1850 double eagle is found mostly in the high-end VF to low-level AU range. Mint State pieces, especially the higher levels thereof, are difficult to acquire. Rich orange-gold patina uniformly covers this Choice AU specimen that retains traces of luster in the recessed areas. Sharp detail is apparent on the design features despite high-point wear. There are fewer marks than what might be expected for a large, heavy gold coin that saw some circulation.(Registry values: N1793)
