1850 Double Eagle, AU Details
First-Year Type Coin
1850 $20 --Improperly Cleaned--NGC Details. AU. Always
popular because of its status as a first-year type coin, the 1850
double eagle is seldom encountered in Mint State grades. The
present coin is a sharply struck example with fine detail present
on all devices and just a hint of wear on the high points. The
surfaces are lightly abraded for the grade, with pleasing
orange-gold color. The mint luster is slightly subdued as a result
of a long-ago cleaning.
