Description

Choice XF 1850 Double Eagle

1850 $20 XF45 PCGS. Ever popular as the first year of issue, the 1850 double eagle is nearly as much a souvenir of the California Gold Rush as any 1851 Humbert or U.S. Assay Office octagonal fifty, as it is all but certain the denomination would never have come into existence were it not for the fabled grab for gold. Philadelphia was also the recipient of much of that "Forty-Niner" gold, which it promptly turned into double eagles. Numerous abrasions pepper each side of this still-lustrous coin, with attractive orange-gold coloration.(Registry values: N1793)
