Description

1851 Double Eagle, MS61
Rare in Mint State

1851 $20 MS61 NGC. Green-gold surfaces contain light abrasions. Slight weakness exists on the highest hair curls, but the reverse is universally strong. The 1851 represented the highest mintage of the decade, as a result of the large amount of gold flowing in from California. However, survival rates were low and circulation was intense, making high grade examples, such as the present offering, rare today. Census: 41 in 61, 36 finer (12/25).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 268H, PCGS# 8904, Greysheet# 9786)

Weight: 33.44 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
