Description

1851 Twenty Dollar, MS62
Sharp Lemon-Gold Example

1851 $20 MS62 PCGS. More than 2 million double eagles were manufactured at the Philadelphia Mint in 1851, the second year that Liberty Head twenties were issued for circulation. Survivors, however, are much less available than that mintage would indicate, especially in mint condition. Doug Winter suggests 2,500 to 3,500+ coins still exist, including 200 to 300 in Uncirculated grades.

This lemon-gold offering displays remarkable pinpoint-sharp design definition. Luster remains bright and eye-catching, while the surfaces show relatively few marks and certainly none that are singularly distracting. Population: 68 in 62 (1 in 62+), 21 finer (1/25).(Registry values: N4719)
