1851-O $20 AU55 NGC. Variety 2. Mintmark placement on the reverse and a few small die lumps around ER in LIBERTY on the obverse aid in identifying this 1851-O double eagle variety. Early New Orleans issues such as the 1851-O are relatively available due to higher mintages brought about by large gold deposits from California. But in AU55, the 1851-O is conditionally elusive and in high demand. This piece is sharp and has some satin luster in the fields. Bright straw-gold surfaces are lightly abraded but still pleasing.(Registry values: N1793)
