1851-O $20 AU58 NGC. CAC. Variety 2. The first four years of production provide collectors their best chance to locate a Type One double eagle from the New Orleans Mint. All other O-mint twenties offer formidable challenges for collectors. This nearly Mint State 1851-O is one of 315,000 pieces stuck. It retains a measure of original mint luster that glows softly from the margins and creeps into the smooth, minimally marked greenish-gold fields. Liberty's cheek is smooth and attractive. Signs of brief circulation are seen at Liberty's upper hair strands and bun, but in all other regards this smooth and pleasing 1851-O is far above average for the AU58 grade. CAC endorsement confirms the obvious high quality. Census: 89 in 58 (3 in 58+), 19 finer. CAC: 11 in 58, 4 finer (5/22).(Registry values: N1793)
