Description

1851-O Twenty Dollar, MS60
High-Grade Louisiana Representative
Green-Gold Surfaces

1851-O $20 MS60 NGC. Variety 1. Die lumps in front of Liberty's eye, the left foot of the first 1 in the date over a dentil, and the mintmark slightly left over the N below serve as diagnostic markers for this variety. The 1851-O has a well-deserved reputation for being the single most collectible double eagle issue from the Louisiana branch mint. A total of 315,000 pieces were struck and about 1,500 to 2,000 examples survive, according to Doug Winter's doubleeaglebook.com. Just 15 to 20 of those remain in mint condition. This strongly defined representative displays distinctive green-gold color and satiny luster around the devices. Myriad abrasions account for the grade. Census: 8 in 60 (1 in 60 ), 12 finer (11/22).(Registry values: N4719)
