Description

1852 Double Eagle, MS62
Lustrous Type One Example

1852 $20 MS62 PCGS. The 1852 double eagle is one of only two pre-Civil War issues with a mintage to exceed 2 million pieces. Garrett and Guth describe it as "one of the more common Type 1 double eagles," but high-end pieces are elusive. This Liberty twenty is one of just 53 pieces in MS62 at PCGS, with only 25 finer examples reported (2/26). The frosty, lilac luster on sharply struck devices blends with rose-gold surfaces for magnificent eye appeal. Aside from a faint graze on Liberty's cheek, abrasions are mostly trivial.
