Description

1852 Type One Twenty, MS63
Near-Condition Census Quality

1852 $20 MS63 NGC. Writing for doubleeaglebook.com, Doug Winter notes that three or four Choice Uncirculated coins take up the top spots on the Condition Census for the 1852 double eagle. This Select specimen would follow closely behind. It certainly ranks among the finest collectible examples of this early Philadelphia twenty dollar issue despite a substantial mintage in excess of 2 million coins.

An abundance of thick, frosty luster covers surfaces that glisten when rotated. Each side displays pleasing yellow-gold color with faint accents of natural rose and green. Marks are minimal for a large gold coin in this grade. Census: 8 in 63, 1 finer (6/23).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 268K, PCGS# 8906, Greysheet# 9787)

Weight: 33.44 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
