Description

1852 Liberty Double Eagle, MS63
Rarely Encountered Finer

1852 $20 MS63 PCGS. CAC. The double eagle was conceived as early as 1836 but it was not mass produced until 1850. By 1852, the Philadelphia Mint output reached more than 2 million double eagles, thus creating one of the most available Type One twenty dollar gold pieces in the series. Overall, the 1852 issue is particularly well-made and attractive. This is an especially sharp example for the MS63 level. Vibrant cartwheel luster rolls across both the obverse and the reverse, while the frosty orange-gold surfaces are velvet-smooth and minimally marked. CAC endorsement reinforces the high quality at this Select Uncirculated twenty. PCGS Population: 21 in 63 (4 in 63+), 6 finer. CAC: 3 in 63, 3 finer (11/25).(Registry values: N4719)
