Description
1852 Twenty, MS63
Bold and Original
1852 $20 MS63 PCGS. The 1852 date was a heavily minted (over
2 million produced), but like all Type One double eagles it is
distinctly uncommon in Mint State and rare in Select Mint State.
Type collectors usually focus on the 1851, 1852, 1853 and 1861
double eagles to find a suitable specimen. Gold specialists compete
for these dates, searching out sharp examples with excellent eye
appeal. This natural-looking twenty displays honey-gold surfaces with tinges of rose in the devices and lilac in the fields. The abrasions are fewer than normally seen for the grade, with coin-to-coin contact evident only from a few isolated marks and no large clusters of abrasions. A worthy choice for type or to upgrade a lower grade coin of the date. Population: 9 in 63, 4 finer (11/13).(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 268K, PCGS# 8906, Greysheet# 9787)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
