Description
Elegant MS62 1853 Double Eagle
1853 $20 MS62 PCGS. Production of double eagles at Philadelphia slid considerably from 1852 to 1853, from over 2 million pieces to less than 1.3 million. Still, the 1853 double eagle is relatively available in lesser grades. Higher-end coins are another matter, and Mint State examples are particularly elusive, with the date becoming a condition rarity in MS62 and better. This wheat-gold piece has an excellent strike for the issue and smooth luster that shows only a few disturbances in the left obverse field. Scattered abrasions on the portrait contribute to the grade. Population: 19 in 62, 1 finer (8/09).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 268M, PCGS# 8908, Greysheet# 9788)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
