Description

Attractive 1853-O Liberty Double Eagle, AU53

1853-O $20 AU53 PCGS. CAC. A small mintage of 71,000 Liberty Head double eagles was produced at the New Orleans Mint in 1853. The issue is scarce in all grades and quite rare in Mint State. Attractive AU coins are an appropriate choice for a fine collection of Type One double eagles. The present coin features crisp striking detail, with only slight wear on the high points of the design. Wear is more apparent on the reverse. Significant mint luster remains on the pleasing green-gold surfaces. Population: 12 in 53, 45 finer (10/09).(Registry values: N2998)
