    1854 Large Date Twenty, AU58
    Well-Struck and Unabraded

1854 $20 Large Date AU58 NGC. The 1854 date is large (obviously) and high in the exergue of the obverse on the Large Date twenty, the tip of the 1 nearly touching the bust truncation -- but the clearest diagnostic is the lump of metal on Liberty's neck, just left of the lowest front curl. The Large Date is much rarer than its Small Date counterpart, although how many were struck as part of the total mintage of 757,899 coins is unknown. This near-Mint State piece displays just the slightest thinning of the luster in the fields on each side. The surfaces are bright yellow-gold with a faint trace of red, remarkably well-struck and showing no obvious or distracting abrasions. Census: 20 in 58, 9 finer (8/12).(Registry values: P6)
