Description

Attractive MS61 1855 Twenty Dollar

1855 $20 MS61 NGC. While available in the lower circulated grades, the 1855 twenty is rare and very underrated in Mint State (Douglas Winter and Adam Crum, 2002). The satiny yellow-gold surfaces of this MS61 example exhibit well struck design elements. While localized grazes preclude a higher grade, the heavy, detracting abrasions seen on most '55 survivors are absent. Even Liberty's cheek is somewhat smoother than usually seen. All in all, this is a nicer coin than what might be expected for an MS61. Census: 6 in 61, 3 finer (9/09).(Registry values: N4719)
