Sharply Struck, Second Year S-Mint Issue

1855-S $20 AU58 NGC. In its second year of production, the San Francisco Mint achieved a substantial coinage of 879,675 double eagles. Examples in VF, XF, and lower AU grades are easily available, but the issue is scarce at the near-Mint level. The orange and rose-gold surfaces of this coin show relatively few abrasions, and the striking details are quite sharp.(Registry values: N1793)
