Description

1855-S Double Eagle, MS62
Broken A, Full E, Variety 14A
Ex:
S.S. Central America

1855-S $20 Broken A, Full E, MS62 PCGS. Variety 14A. Ex: S.S. Central America. SSCA 6254. On the reverse, the A in STATES has its crossbar clearly deflected from straight-across. This second-year San Francisco double eagle has the classic Central America color sequence, pale through the interiors with powerful orange elements along parts of the margins, particularly the right reverse. Crisply detailed overall, though somewhat softly struck on some of the hair-strands near the bun. Though abraded on Liberty's cheek and in the fields around the portrait, the overall eye appeal is strong for an MS62 coin. For the variety, Population: 5 in 62, 9 finer (2/15).(Registry values: N4719)
