Description

1855-S Double Eagle, MS63
S.S. Central America Treasure Coin

1855-S $20 MS63 PCGS. CAC. Variety 14-A. Ex: S.S. Central America, housed in the special gold-foil PCGS holder. The crossbar of the A in STATES is broken, but the E is complete. A splendid Select Mint State 1855-S double eagle that was carefully preserved in 8,000 feet of ocean water for nearly a century and a half before the treasure was discovered. Scattered, grade-consistent marks appear on each side of this lovely example that features brilliant yellow luster and frosty surfaces. Much scarcer in Mint State than the 1857-S. Population: 6 in 63, 3 finer. CAC: 3 in 63, 2 finer (11/18).
