Description
Sharply Struck 1856-S Double Eagle, AU55
1856-S $20 AU55 NGC. The large mintage, as well as the tragedy of the sinking of the S.S. Central America, are both responsible for the relative availability today of this issue. It is also a popular issue as an antebellum S-mint. Much luster radiates from the orange-gold surfaces of this Choice AU piece, and the coin overall is well-struck and distraction-free.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2692, PCGS# 8919, GSID# 9864)
