Near-Mint 1856-S Twenty

1856-S $20 AU58 NGC. Discovery of the S.S. Central America treasure has turned the 1856-S double eagle into a common date among Type One twenties. This example has a look entirely unlike those from the treasure, suggesting that it may be a scarce pre-treasure example that survived through the normal channels of commerce and numismatics. Light wear and frosty green-gold color are visible with nearly complete luster. The usual tiny surface marks and rim bumps are evident.(Registry values: N1793)
