Choice AU 1856-S Double Eagle

1856-S $20 Split Serif AU55 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Central America. Variety 17J. SSCA 5373. The 1857-S constituted a majority of the double eagles recovered from the S.S. Central America. A shipwreck, but a number of 1856-S twenties were also present, mostly in AU grades. The present lightly abraded piece has nearly full luster, although the wing tips show slight friction. Generally sun-gold, with blushes of golden-brown in selected areas. Encased in a gold label holder.(Registry values: P4)
