Description

Near-Mint 1857 Type One Twenty

1857 $20 AU58 NGC. The 1857-S double eagle is relatively common in Uncirculated grades, due to the bounty from the S.S. Central America. But the 1857 Philadelphia issue was struck thousands of miles away and went unrepresented in that shipwreck's holdings. While the present piece is lightly circulated, considerable pumpkin-orange luster clings to the design. The devices are evenly struck, and there are no marks worthy of individual comment.(Registry values: N1793)
