Description
1857-O Twenty Dollar, AU50
Challenging New Orleans Issue
1857-O $20 AU50 NGC. While the 1850-O through 1853-O Liberty
twenty dollar issues are sometimes available, patience and a
pocketbook are required to obtain subsequent New Orleans double
eagles. Like other post-1853 O-mint issues, the 1857-O is rare. The
mintage was a scant 30,000 pieces, and an estimated 200 to 250
examples exist in any condition. The present green-gold AU
representative displays light wear on Liberty's curls, but luster
illuminates the wings, rays, and other design elements. No marks
are of any relevance, and the eye appeal is attractive. Census: 19
in 50, 95 finer (3/23).(Registry values: N2998)From The Buddy Liles Collection of U.S. Gold Coins, Part III.
