Description

Gorgeous Gem 1857-S Double Eagle
Ex:
S.S. Central America

1857-S $20 Bold S MS65 PCGS. SSCA 5728. Both sides offer the characteristically vibrant luster and sharp detail that distinguish the finest survivors from the wreck of the S.S. Central America. Seemingly flawless with delightful straw-gold centers that yield to slightly deeper yellow-gold close to the rims. Though thousands of fresh, virtually untouched double eagles came to light with the Central America salvage operations, few examples can match the eye appeal or condition of this delightful Gem. For the 20B or Bold S variety, PCGS has certified a mere 48 finer representatives (8/08).(Registry values: P2)
