Description
1857-S Double Eagle, MS63
Excellent Spiked Shield
1857-S $20 MS63 NGC. 20A Spiked Shield. Two small die lines
adjacent to the lower left shield identify this Spiked Shield
variety. This is a technically superior example with pristine
surfaces that are nearly unblemished. NGC chose to limit the grade
because of rather matte-appearing, subdued luster, especially on
the obverse. All of the design elements on both sides are boldly
defined. Although not identified as such, it is likely that this
example is from the S.S. Central America treasure.Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2006), lot 4195.(Registry values: N2998)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2696, PCGS# 8922, Greysheet# 9884)
