Description

1857-S Double Eagle, MS66
Bold S Mintmark

1857-S $20 MS66 PCGS. CAC. Variety 20-B. Ex: S.S. Central America, housed in the special gold-foil PCGS holder. The Bold Medium S mintmark is crisp and sharp on this variety. About 20% of the more than 5,000 1857-S double eagles that Bob Evans studied are from this die pair. This treasure coin is an outstanding gold piece that exhibits lemon-yellow toning at the borders, lighter yellow-gold at the centers, and brilliant, frosty mint luster with virtually pristine surfaces and exceptional eye appeal. Population: 48 in 66, 3 finer. CAC: 22 in 66, 2 finer (11/18).
