Choice 1857-S Double Eagle, Narrow Serif
From the S.S. Central America Treasure

1857-S $20 Narrow Serif MS64 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Central America. Variety 20C, Narrow Serif. SSCA 4375. A study of the treasure of the S.S. Central America revealed eight different die varieties for the 1857-S double eagle. The present coin is one of the 532 examples of the Narrow Serif variety recovered from the storied shipwreck. The variety gets its name from the thin left serif on the U in UNITED. This specimen displays ample luster and a needle-sharp strike, with a minimum number of handling marks.(Registry values: P2)
