Description
Fantastic Gem 1857-S Double Eagle
From The S.S. Central America
1857-S $20 Spiked Shield MS65 PCGS. SSCA 1095. Though a
number of Select and even Choice survivors of the 1857-S double
eagle issue came from the wreckage of the S.S. Central
America, Gems were far more elusive and are highly prized by
type enthusiasts, date collectors, and sunken-treasure devotees
alike. This piece offers all the hallmarks of a Central
America Gem, including the bold detail, radiant yellow-gold
surfaces, and astonishingly high preservation with eye appeal to
match. Comes with certificate of authenticity, faux-book case,
brown Blanchard outer box, and the receipt for the coin's original
purchase.
Note for clients in the European Union: This lot is considered by the European Union to be “investment gold”. We believe that it meets the criteria established in Article 344(1), point (2) of Council Directive 2006/112/EC and thus should be exempt from import VAT regardless of the selling price. Any questions or concerns about VAT should be addressed to your accountant or local tax authority.
