Gem 'Spiked Shield' 1857-S Double Eagle
From the S.S. Central America
1857-S $20 Spiked Shield MS65 PCGS. Variety 20A. Ex: S.S.
Central America. SSCA 0777. A magnificent Gem with smooth
butter-gold fields and intricately impressed devices. The Spiked
Shield variety is the most widely recognized from the SSCA
hoard, identified by two hair-thin die lines (as made) near the
left shield border. Housed in a gold label holder.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 70000, Base PCGS# 8922, GSID# 9892)
